Selen vs. STL

I got carried away with editing the photos of Kim as Selene (here and here) so my St. Louis photos fell behind. I'm two thirds of the way there, though!

It's been an interesting few weeks. Between trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up, taking a stab at starting a new business, and turning the corner from Photography as Serious Hobby to Photographer as Professional, I've found my head spinning in multiple different directions.

I keep thinking I want to get into details about all of it here, but then I realize that as soon as I start writing something down, it is already changing.

IM Prankster Fun

Here's a fun one to pull on your friends (soon-to-be enemies) while they're away from their computer:

Open up their IM program, find the handle for their boss and rename it to your name or someone to whom you know this person will vent. Then, rename their friend's handle (or yours) to their boss's name. Finally, rearrange the two handles so they switch places in your friend's friend list.

Next time your friend (soon-to-be enemy) goes to vent to their "friend", they'll be chatting with their soon-to-be ex-boss.

Not Again!

Why is it that each time I get my butt in gear and improve my exercise routine, which means going from not exercising to exercising regularly, my body decides it needs to get sick? I feel a cold coming on. Or something. I'd rather not, but thanks for offering.

I'm eating soup. It's making my throat feel like it doesn't hate me as much. But I think it still hates me.

I had a shoot with Kimberley Anne tonight who was dressed as Selene from Underworld. She's starting to make appearances at comic conventions and needed some shots for her portfolio.

I took the opportunity to experiment with multiple strobes, one on camera and one off. I don't have any wireless transmitters yet, so I was left to be creative with lighting configurations. Rather difficult, I'll say! But I think I got some good shots. Realized after the fact that my ISO was set too high for my preference, but they'll be OK for web and smaller prints. Will probably be adding some effects to the final shots anyway, so we'll see.

But all of that waits in line behind my St. Louis photos, about which I am rather excited and have been working on editing this week.

Blink

In the blink of an eye my mood can swing to the wrong extreme. One moment I'm ready to conquer the world, the next I'm ready to hide from it all.

Let's swing that pendulum on up the other way, shall we?

Fast Losing Hope in Humanity

On Saturday I was driving through my neighborhood on my way to see 300 in an IMAX theater when I noticed a man sitting on a retaining wall, but reclined back into the landscaping behind the wall. I also noticed that he was half on and off a cement utility cover which did not look comfortable. His mouth was wide open, face to the sky and he was motionless.

I decided to call 911 and advise the police of his predicament in case they should choose to do a health and wellness check on the guy. The dispatcher was less than helpful or polite. I began explaining the situation but was continually cut off with new questions. He was wearing a hat...what kind of hat? I don't know, maybe a baseball cap and he had a coat on...what kind of coat and what color was it?

Now, I understand that these are basic questions that are necessary for the police to get an idea of who it is they're looking for and where, but the delivery just completely made me question why I had even called. Being made to feel like I made some kind of mistake for calling to potentially help someone is just not something in which I'm interested.

It's sad when such an experience makes you not want to bother the next time you see someone dead or otherwise inconvenienced on the side of the road.

Traffic

Google added traffic to their maps.

I've been using this site for years, so I'll be interested to see how the two compare.
